Today in car break-ins

For some reason, this particular TikTok by a young woman about her car getting broken into got pushed to me on at least two different sites today. In the video, the woman, who is on her way to move to Bali, tells the truly awful story of her car getting broken into while she was in In-N-Out getting food to go.

One of the places that picked up this terrible story was something called “We Got This Covered,” which attached this headline, a quote that appears nowhere in the video, to their rendition:

Although this young lady never says where the In-N-Out in question was, a commenter pointed out that it wasn’t in San Francisco at all, but in fact was in Oakland.

Obviously it doesn’t make any difference to this person, who had all their stuff stolen, which obviously sucks and is awful, but Oakland is not, in fact, San Francisco and now there are over 2,000 comments on the video shitting on San Francisco where, indeed, car break-ins happen every day, just not this particular one.

Does it make any difference? I don’t know. (I’m not even going to bother addressing an obviously wealthy young white woman moving to Bali or the fact that her other posts are about renting a luxury yacht in Croatia or a $600 a night hotel in Mallorca.)

Well, she probably fixed the post after realizing it happened in Oakland, a completely different city, right? No. She posted another video more explicitly identifying the sight of the break-in as San Francisco, which she’s already admitted it wasn’t.

I don’t know why this irritates me so much other than the fact that we get so much shit and SF has enough problems of our own without having to own Oakland’s too. Anyway, I hope you get to move to Bali soon.
